Dedicated in memory of Jim Collins

A promotional album released by Epic Records containing hits of the day that was branded for stations using their call letters and slogan. Look carefully however in the top left corner for a mistake.

Although WPGC was using the 'Musicradio' moniker at the time, it very definitely was NOT on (AM) '60'. The most feasible explanation was that someone in the Baltimore / Washington office at Epic made a mental slip and confused WCAO in Baltimore (which was also using 'Musicradio' to identify itself at the time) with WPGC.

The LP consisted of then-recent hits dating back to 1976 through 1977 and contains a rarity - the label-edited version of Wild Cherry's, 'Play That Funky Music' with the reference to 'white boy' edited out! WPGC never played this version though some stations around the country (notably, in the South) did.

On the label on the disc itself, no mention was made of WPGC (or any station).

The title of the album 'Rocks' was a misnomer. Half the cuts on it were Rythmic in nature. Track listing included:

Side One
Carry On Wayward Son Kansas (album version)
Ridin' Out The Storm REO Speedwagon (live)
Ain't Gonna Bump No More Joe Tex
The Pride (Part 1 & 2) Isley Brothers
Play That Funky Music Wild Cherry (label edited version)
Side Two
Dancin' Man Q
Show You The Way To Go Jacksons (single version)
I'm Scared Burton Cummings
I Believe In Miracles Englebert Humperdink
Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow Tom Jones
Peace Of Mind Boston (single version)

Jim Elliott writes:

As far as that EPIC album, the songs were definitely my era at WPGC...but I'll be damned if I can remember ever seeing it. WPGC was such a powerhouse back then we would never have given anything away that had such a glaring error. We probably just put them in a dumpster and someone got hold of a copy.....a true mid 70's rarity.

Alexander Goodfellow writes:

I vaguely remember this album, seems like I gave away a bunch of them while I was at KSLQ in St. Louis. Don't recall seeing the 'PGC one, what a hoot about the 60!
