Listen To This WPGC Aircheck

Top 100 of 1976

Special thanks to Walt Bailey for this tape.

Heard here the morning after New Year's Eve on 01/01/77, Tim Kelly joined the station from WCFL in Chicago in 1975 when Columbus left for the Production Director gig at WLS Chicago. His tenure at WPGC lasted until May of 1977 when all striking air personnel on the station were replaced with non-unionized talent. Tim would go onto to do mornings in LA on 'The Beat', host a show on KFI with his wife Evelyn (who was a Money Girl at WPGC when Tim worked there), and became one of the founders of Premiere Radio.

Things to listen for:

- Several listener 'Sound Offs' by News Guy, Bob Raleigh (Bill Miller, also deposed by the strike) on the Redskins season, Christmas season gripes and people opening car doors into traffic.

- A 1976 promotions recap promo by Tim Kelly & a Top Ten LPs giveaway promo by afternoon guy & Program Director, Jim Collins (for whom this site is dedicated).

- An agency spot for a new movie at the time, 'A Star Is Born'.
